Where Our Dove Hunts Take Place
Dove hunting begins around 3 or 4 in the afternoon, which is established by when the dove are flying and the scouting we’ve done.
Most dove hunting (both white-wing and mourning) is done over harvested grain fields and South Texas watering holes or natural dove “flyways” near stands of dove weed. Usually, all dove hunting is done within a short distance from the Lodge in local fields and pastures.
Gun Safety
Gun safety is imperative and unsafe gun handling will not be tolerated. Always know where your gun is pointing and be aware of where your fellow hunters are.
Be very aware of our (or your) dog – our dogs are like our children and we are extremely protective of them.
NOTE: Texas law requires all hunters born on or after September 2, 1971 to have successfully completed a hunter education course to legally hunt in the State of Texas. For more information, or to take the course, click here.
Guns, Ammo and Licenses
You will need to bring your own shotgun (preferably 12 or 20 gauge) and shells (#7 1/2 or #8 lead shot). The number of boxes of shells will depend on how good a shot you are. Bring double what you think you will need.
Also, make sure you have your hunting license with HIP certification and migratory game bird endorsement. Game wardens are friendly but thorough during dove season, so make sure you are in compliance with all of the regulations and that your gun has the proper plug in it so that it can only shoot three shots.
Your Guides Will Make Sure You’re Well-Cared For
We provide comfortable camo captain’s chairs to sit on and will position everyone around a field to keep the birds flying. Always be aware of your fellow hunters, no matter how far apart everyone is.
Guides will position dogs to help retrieve and locate the dove that is buried in the brush.
We will also drive around the field with refreshments or to help with jammed guns or lack of ammo.
Dove hunting trips end at sunset and everyone will be picked up and ready for the ride back to the lodge where all birds will be cleaned and packaged for everyone by our staff.
